Fairlawn Green Action:
Property improvements

Objective statement

INSTALL COMPACT FLUORESCENT LIGHTBULBS (CFLs) in the Fairlawn facility by May 30th for fixtures that don't require modification -- with the help of the custodians -- in a variety of locations to be determined. An inventory of CFLs will be made available in future, and a variety of fixture types will be tested in certain areas, such as the sanctuary.

Educate the congregation and the neighbourhood as to the wisdom of using CFLs.

Status

The “Light Brigade” charged at our incandescent lamps!

The CFL team replaced all outdated technology lamps which could be retrofitted with products currently available at local hardware stores. A team of Sheila Corkill, Tom Cullen and Mike Skibinski, was led by John Cowan in replacing 108 lamps, reducing 7,700 watts from the connected load in the Church. This represented a 78% reduction. The 8-10 times longer life new bulbs in some cases have slightly different light distribution patterns and a short warmup period. However, generally the changes were planned so that nobody noticed them!  The intent was to upgrade the lighting efficiency wherever a simple change could be made. In fact it has been gratifying that nobody has commented on the changes.

Note: Any remaining incandescent lamps in the Church require some lighting engineering before we can say we have purged the Church of inappropriate technology.
