It's a great way to work up an appetite for the Cyclist's Breakfast happening on Nathan Phillips Square at 8:30 a.m. Get a free T-shirt and attend the open air fair in the Square which starts at breakfast and continues into the day. http://www.toronto.ca/cycling/bikemonth/group-commute-2008.htm
The Clean Air Commute is part of the 20/20 Program: The Way to Clean Air. It's a campaign to help you reduce home energy use and vehicle use by 20 percent.
Commuter Tips
- Carpooling – share a ride to work, school or to events
- Using public transit – take the bus, streetcar, subway or GO Train
- Walking and biking – use your legs for great exercise
- Teleworking – work from home even once a month and make a difference
- Trip chaining – combine errands into one journey rather than making several separate car trips
- Keeping your tires properly inflated; check your tire pressure at least twice a month and add air when needed
- Keeping your engine properly tuned
- Taking your time speeding up and slowing down
- Choosing an energy-efficient vehicle; larger cars and engines often burn more fuel and cost more money to run
- Limiting the amount you idle-your engine – it wastes gas and creates air pollution; it is also against the law to idle your car for more than three minutes in the City of Toronto
