RIDING YOUR BIKE!
Guided historic bike tour of the Fairlawn neighbourhood was a big success ...
-
In June, we met at the front lawn at Fairlawn Avenue United Church/Fairlawn Neighbourhood Centre, with perfect cycling weather and a great turnout of children, youth and adults. Gary Schlee, our tour guide, did a great job with historical anecdotes that were fun, fascinating and informative. The evening a huge success! Our aim (as well as learning history) was to give people an enjoyable outing on a bike -- especially when they may not have ridden for many years -- to encourage them to keep cycling and leave the car at home whenever possible. By all the smiles, I'm sure we succeeded. The ice cream stop at "Robyn's Cookies" was certainly a treat. It's a very cute place with delicious cookies and ice cream, and we were very happy to support a local business. If you want to try it out, it's at 3215 Yonge Street -- off the back alley north of the lights at Ranleigh (behind Melonheads) east side of Yonge. We're trying to talk Gary into doing another historic bike tour in the fall with a new route and sites.See Gary's blog with info on local historical sites in The Story of a Community. You can still pick up a free Toronto cycling map at Fairlawn

Group Commute & Breakfast
As part of the annual Bike Month in Toronto, meet up with fellow cyclists at Yonge and Lawrence [check date and time for your area each year] for a police-escorted cycle to City Hall. It's a great way to work up an appetite for the Cyclist's Breakfast happening on Nathan Phillips Square and attend the open air fair in the Square which starts at breakfast and continues into the day.
